My default has always been to avoid abstracts. I didn’t like them, mainly because I didn’t understand them. They felt random, like they lacked purpose. But recently, I’ve started learning about what makes an abstract work —how the elements of art like color, balance, and movement come together to tell a story or evoke emotion.

As with many facets of life, appreciation comes with understanding. Just like this painting started to make sense the more I studied and created, the same is true for life. Often, the most meaningful things aren’t immediately obvious—they require patience, trust, and a willingness to see beyond the surface.

2 Corinthians 4:18 says:

“So we do not focus on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”

Abstracts have taught me to look deeper, to trust the process, and to appreciate the beauty of things not immediately understood. And isn’t that just like our walk with God? Sometimes we don’t see the full picture, but He is always crafting something beautiful.

Varnished for protection. This piece does not come framed.
