“Emerging” was inspired by the children in my homeschool co-op science class! Studying whales seemed to be a favorite of everyone. Seeing their fascination and wonder, watching them engage fully in our projects, hearing them passionately discuss ways to help these creatures…their joy and unfiltered amazement at God’s creation is what led me to choose whales as a subject matter. As Genesis 1:21 declares, “So God created the large sea-creatures and every living creature that moves and swarms in the water, according to their kinds…” In their delight, I was able to see the sweetness of God’s design reflected back, bringing me a deep joy that emerged in my teacher’s heart, just as I imagine the whales emerged from God’s creativity on that fifth day.
